or alternatively you can open VLC (download from http://www.videolan.org/) copy the URL of the channel you want (from the list below) copy to your clipboard, open vlc, click Ctrl +V, hit Enter.

This opens media from the clipboard. Once you have opened all the channels, you can select the channel you want from 'recent media'.

      AOL stopped support for Shoutcast/Winamp as they want to sell it to Microsuck. So the yp.shoutcast server is offline, and all of the yp links are therefore useless. BUT if you have direct links to the .nsv streams, you can still watch as long as they are up and running. Of course, some streams might die off like Pirate TV, because of this, but hopefully we can work around it.

      For now, Thugie(South Park stream) has made such an attempt by making his own shoutcast TV directory that is manually updated(click the refresh icon next to a channel to see what's playing) and the links work. He said he plans on adding a feature for broadcasters to add their station.

    once you are watching a channel on vlc, you can right click on the screen, go 'video' , 'aspect ratio' and try the different ratios like 4:3 (old square style TV ) or wide screen like '16:9' for a more movie effect ... it'll stretch it out.

    for the other channel codes,
    1.go to
    http://www.shoutcast.com/sctvinwinamp/most-popular/adultFilter/1/?minBr=1&maxBr=2000&numresult=300
    (winamp page of channels)
    2. LOOK CAREFULLY FOR A SMALL SILVER SQUARE BUTTON at the end of each channel.
    3.hover the mouse over that button and the URL link will pop up in the bottom of your browser, LOOK CAREFULLY FOR THE NUMBER AFTER ' ID= '
    4. memorise / write down that number
    5.go back to your VLC 'open location from clipboard ' ( that was step 4. on the 16 november post at 04.06)
    you should see the last link you had copied,
    6.change the number on the end of that URL to the number of the channel you now want to stream.
    7.once you've done all the channels you want, you can open from 'open recent media '

    EXAMPLE
    1.so you'd take this first channel address:
    http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=726915

    2.make sure you remove any blank spaces after the number at the end (when you copy a link it's easy to pick up an extra space at the end or start and not know it until you check closely)
    3.chop off the number 726915, because that was the channel specific number and you want a different channel now, for example:
    125466
    78127
    399665
    205195
    89472
    4.once you've picked your channel number, put that after the 'id='
    voilĂ ! there you have your new channel URL, copy it to the clipboard and do the whole 'open media from clipboard' thing...from VLC... you dig ?

    5.so just to be sure ...

    HOW TO HAVE ALL YOUR CHANNEL LINKS IN A FOLDER:
    personally, I would then:
    1. create a new folder on the desktop,
    2.choose a browser just for using with my shoutcast channels,
    3.paste the URL channels into the browser address bar
    4.drag them from the address bar to the desktop (this should give you a shortcut on your desktop, one for each channel.. you have to do them one at a time.
    5.rightclick on those shortcuts and
    6.select 'open with..'
    7.select VLC as the program you wanna open them with . you now have a folder full of shortcut links.
    8.double click those links and they should open up with VLC and start running.
    9.If you want to change the folder icon to a more fun looking icon, you can right click and select a different icon.

    so the simplest way is to copy the recent links I've provided, and open from clipboard in VLC.

    Once you get teh hang of that, if you want to try chrome to play your url links, that can work well. you need to download the vlc chrome plugin

    try this url http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=192334 for example.

    so if you have the chrome plugin installed, you should be able to paste the above url into the chrome browser url address bar and it should open up vlc for you and start playing that channel.

    it will start playing, but upside-down, to change this select 'tools' (from the vlc top menu) tools/video effects/geometry/click the 'transform'box/flip vertically

    I tried this for all the above links and got no media streams from any of them. I also tried to access them from view/playlist/manage steam method described by another website, but playlist dialog had no "manage" option. So unless there is some option that is preventing playback, I'm looking elsewhere.
